Christine Mendoza is our December AR Fitness member of the month! Here’s a little about Christine from AR’s perspective, and why we chose her to be member of the month: First, she is one of the most helpful members at AR. If there’s someone new to the class, she’ll be there to guide them along the way. Second, she loves the “why” behind programming, coaching, and fitness in general, which a huge joy as a coach to have someone that interested in the methodology. Finally, she is incredibly loyal. If you get the chance to call her friend, she will fight for you for anything. She’s already been so helpful to us as a business, and it is truly a joy to have her as part of the family.
Let’s learn a little bit more about Christine!
How long have you been working out for?
I started at Crossfit Reign back in May 2012. I have been a part of a few other gyms since then.
What is your primary goal for coming to AR?
I knew y’all were educated and committed and your heart was in it. Whatever you guys were going to do, I could trust. So when I heard about the gym opening, I was all in since then.
What keeps you motivated to come back?
The workouts are made to make me better, and I see and feel that. You guys structure it well enough that I can come every day without feeling bad. You guys also watch intently and coach. When something is questionable with our movement, you’re asking us what’s up so we can modify and correct us. I’m just no longer discouraged from coming to the gym.
What is your favorite thing about AR?
Dump truck Mondays for sure. I look forward to it. I know that it strengthens my weaknesses. I know I’m doing the right things to become better, rather than focusing on how quickly I can do a workout.
What’s your favorite movement?
Power clean!
What’s your favorite hobby?
Working out is definitely one of my favorite hobbies. But outside of the gym, it’s really just hanging out with my friends. The positive influence and personal investment they have in me is such a joy.
What’s one piece of advice for someone starting out in their fitness journey?
In the beginning it’s scary. There’s new movements and I remember being there. I remember feeling like I was the last one finished in workouts and I just felt small. As I started to get comfortable, the community helped. Focus on the people that are bringing you up and pushing you, and that will help you get better. Know too that it’s always going to be hard, and it’s always going to hurt. But that means you’re improving.
What’s one thing you want others to know about you?
I fell into a career that I never thought I would love. I work for the Department of Public Safety state crime lab. It was just a job at first. But after understanding how important what I do is, it felt like a gift. I enjoy what I’m doing and I just didn’t expect that after having so many jobs that I didn’t. I get to help victims have their peace and closure. Knowing I’m a part of that has just given me so much purpose.
