Congratulations to Denise Campa, our March Member of the Month! Denise and we go way back to our old Crossfit Reign days, and it’s a blessing to have her still riding with us. How would we describe Denise Campa? She is generous, caring, enthusiastic, resilient, and last but not least, she is the life of the party. She is one of the first to introduce herself to new members, she will go way beyond what others will to help you out, she has the best attitude in the gym, and she’ll be one of the first to take a tequila shot with you. One of the ways we decide to pick Members of the Month is by understanding how much we’d lose by losing them as a member. Denise is the epitome of that notion. The community as a whole would lose much if we lost her. This is our little way of saying thank you for being you.
How long have you been working out for?
I've always had an active lifestyle. In my very younger years, my parents put me in dance, karate, and gymnastics. I played a lot of sports. Then Crossfit came into my life, and I fell in love. So to answer your question, my whole life.
What is your primary goal for coming to AR?
My goal at AR is to slow it down, focus on movements and muscles that I haven't targeted before. Learn that slowing workouts down also gives you an effective workout.
What keeps you motivated to come back?
Honestly, if I don't work out, I feel useless and unproductive. I don't want to slow down, especially as I get older.
What is your favorite thing about AR?
Hands down, my favorite thing is how AR has come full circle. I've known the coaches/owners for over 10 years. I'm not just paying a membership, we are actually friends.
What’s your favorite movement?
Lunges! They hurt but are so effective. And power cleans!
What’s your favorite hobby?
Definitely staying active and hanging out with my dogs. Finding new hiking places to check out.
What’s one piece of advice for someone starting out in their fitness journey?
Give yourself so much grace, nothing great happens overnight. A fitness journey is that, a journey. It also doesn't always mean lifting weights and killing yourself in the gym. It can mean daily walks and discovering new outdoor places.
What’s one thing you want others to know about you?
I Google/YouTube things first before I call a handyman.
